In the past Dr. Sastry held the position of Higher Education Advisor at Diamondhead Ventures, Director-Information Technology at US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Assistant Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Member of American Academy of Arts & Sciences, Principal at College of Engineering, Pune and Member of National Research Foundation.

Dr. Sastry received an undergraduate degree from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and a doctorate and a graduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
