HLG-AM is an active investor and manages a diversified mix of portfolios invested in equity and fixed-income through Islamic and non-Islamic equity funds, fixed income funds and balanced funds. The firm has no market cap restriction and invests across sectors and strategies with a primary geographical focus on Malaysia and, to a lesser extent, the Asia Pacific ex Japan region. HLG-AM relies on their partner, Schroder Investment Management (Singapore) Ltd., for investments in foreign securities. The firm's investment process is research driven and follows both top-down and bottom-up approaches. They conduct fundamental analysis of macroeconomic factors such as monetary policies, interest rate trends, politics and sectors to determine asset allocation. HLG-AM also performs fundamental microeconomic research to select individual companies; this process includes the assessment of management, balance sheet, cash flows, profitability, valuations and risk factors. Finally interviews or company visits, discussions with investment analysts and a research report complete the investment process. The firm continually assesses market risk factors and aims to minimize investment risks through stringent investment discipline.
