Lundbeckfond Invest is an active, long-term manager which aims to achieve stable returns with moderate risk to maintain or increase the purchasing power of the portfolio assets and provide a relatively predictable and stable real return to be used for awarding grants. They invest in a variety of instruments including Danish bonds, corporate bonds, cash and cash equivalents, equities, private equity, lifescience companies and real estate. The portfolio must not include any unusual risks with respect to geography, sectors, companies or political stability and must mainly invest in listed assets. The Lundbeck Foundation's Board of Trustees determines the investment policy and appoints an Investment Committee to implement it. They share responsibility for the strategic and tactical allocation of assets and risk management with the executive management of the Foundation and with the Investment Department. The Investment Department manages the portfolio in collaboration with external managers. Risk management is an integral part of investment management. Lundbeckfond Invest manages market risk by setting limits per asset class. They also set maximum limits for the duration of the bond portfolio. Liquidity risk is managed by limits on the proportion of the portfolio invested in non-liquid assets (private equity). In addition to these limits, the portfolio's Value-at-Risk is monitored in order to control and manage current market risk.
