GIC Pte. Ltd.'s (GIC) investment objective is to enhance the international purchasing power of the Government of Singapore's reserves. The firm seeks to achieve a real rate of return over and above the G3 inflation rate over a long-term horizon. GIC invests globally in equities, fixed-income, foreign exchange, commodities, money markets, alternative investments, real estate and private equity in over 40 markets. For medium-term performance monitoring, they seek to outperform an appropriate composite of recognized market indices through optimal allocation among and within asset classes. GIC invests globally with a focus on systematic diversification across multiple asset classes. Policy asset mix is approved by the GIC Board. This process consists of setting policy weights for different asset classes such as equities, bonds and cash. The GIC Board also approves long-term allocations for private equity and real estate investments. The policy asset allocation is periodically reviewed, taking into account the fit between the long-term expected risk-return profile of the assets and GIC's investment objective. Within the respective asset classes, GIC investment professionals manage the allocated funds to achieve GIC's investment objective of preserving the purchasing power of Singapore's reserves. They make decisions about which countries, sectors and companies to invest the funds in.
