In addition to serving as a Director for Innovation Philadelphia, Mr. Street is Mayor of the City of Philadelphia.
Mayor Street was born into rural poverty in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
He worked his way through Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama where he studied English.
In 1975, Mayor Street earned his Juris Doctorate from Temple University Law School, paying his tuition by moonlighting as a sidewalk vendor on the university's campus.
Following his graduation, Mayor Street served clerkships with Common Pleas Court Judge Mathew W.
Bullock, Jr. and with the United States Department of Justice.
In his first professional job, Mayor Street taught English at an elementary school and, later, at the Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center.
He practiced law privately prior to entering into public service.
Mayor Street was elected to Philadelphia City Council in 1979 and served as President for several years, distinguishing himself as a fighter for working people and neighborhoods.
He is married to Naomi, an attorney and children's rights advocate.
Together they have four children.
An avid fitness enthusiast, Mayor Street jogs fifteen miles and bicycles between 30 and 40 miles each week.
