Ms. Susanne Bärenthaler-Sieber is a Senior Economist at Österreichisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung.
She has been working in the Research Group "Industrial Economics, Innovation, and International Competition" since 2004.
Her main research interests are in the fields of competitiveness, digital transformation, telecom sector, industrial policies, structural change, headquarters, and international economics.
Before joining WIFO she worked in the economic department of the Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunication (RTR).
She has participated in or led a number of national and international projects and is the author of numerous publications in these fields.
For example, she has been working on a redefinition of the concept of competitiveness within the framework of the WWWforEurope project funded by the EU's 7th Framework Programme.
Susanne Bärenthaler-Sieber has also worked for many years as an expert too and part of the organizational team of the Research Center of International Economics (FIW) – which offers economic policy advice and analysis in this field – and has been responsible for the publication "Austria's External Economic Relations" 2007 to 2010.
Most recently, she worked on projects to evaluate the Broadband Strategy 2020 and led a project on Austria's broadband demand deficit.
Susanne Bärenthaler-Sieber studied economics at the University of Vienna (Magister) and was a lecturer (Industrial Policy) at the TU Wien.
