Alliant Techsystems, Inc. designs and manufactures aerospace, defense, and commercial products. It operates its business through three segments: Aerospace Group, Defense Group, and Sporting Group. The Defense Group develops and produces military small, medium and large caliber ammunition, propulsion systems for tactical missiles and missile defense applications, strike weapons, precision munitions, gun systems, aircraft survivability systems, fuzes and warheads, energetic materials and special mission aircraft. The Sporting Group develops and produces commercial ammunition, accessories, rifles and shotguns for the hunting, shooting, law enforcement, outdoor and sporting markets. The company was founded on May 2, 1990 and is headquartered in Arlington, VA.
