United Through Reading is a non-profit organization that connects military families during deployments or military assignments by providing the bonding experience of shared video recorded storytime. United Through Reading keeps military families reading ready, no matter the distance between them. Families stay connected through story time video recordings and books sent to military families. Founded in 1989 by a military spouse and reading specialist, the program has helped more than 2.7 million military mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, older siblings, and children sustain bonds and foster literacy by sharing stories across even the greatest distances. The non-profit company was founded in 1989 by Betty J. Mohlenbrock. Tim Farrell has been the CEO of the company since 2022.
