Dr. Peter Huber is a Senior Economist at Österreichisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung.
He has been working in the Research Group “Structural Change and Regional Development” since 1998.
From 2012 to 2014 he was Deputy Director for marketing and public relations.
He is elected member of the Committee for Regional Theory and Policy of the Association for Social Policy and a member of Vilnius University.
As the lead partner or committee member, he also helped to manage numerous international and national research projects (Framework Programmes 5 and 7, Interreg).
His research deals with migration, labor markets, and regional development.
These are also topics on which he has published in renowned journals such as the European Economic Review, Regional Studies, and the Journal of Regional Science.
He has a lively interest in policy-relevant research, advising the Commission's DG's EMPL and GROW, the German Federal Ministry of Labor, the Austrian Ministries of Social Affairs and of Foreign Affairs, and the provincial governments of Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Styria, and Tyrol.
He is currently researching the determinants of integration of migrants into Austrian society and the regional consequences of ethnic cleansing.
During his career, he taught at the WU Vienna as well as at the Universities of Innsbruck and Salzburg and studied, taught, and researched in Berlin, Olomouc, Almaty, and Urbana-Champaign.
From 2010 to 2019 he was a lecturer at Mendel University, Brno, and from 2015 to 2017 member of the scientific advisory board of the Upper Austrian Future Academy.
