David Lewis

The Oxford Centre for Hebrew & Jewish Studies is a research institute for Jewish studies located in Oxford, UK. The centre is fully funded by the Oxford Centre and is the leading research centre for academic Jewish studies in the UK. The centre's mission is to support the full scope of Hebrew and Jewish studies from antiquity to the contemporary world, and it aims to fund education at undergraduate and graduate levels within the University of Oxford. The centre has hosted four European seminars on advanced Jewish studies between 2009 and 2012, each comprising a series of seminars and workshops extending over a period of six months and culminating in a conference. The centre was founded by David Patterson, who played a key role in the emergence of Jewish studies as an autonomous academic discipline.
