Rod Hanson, the Valdez Marine Terminal Manager for the Alyeska
Pipeline Service Company, is responsible for the day-to-day safe
operations and maintenance of the 1000-acre Marine Terminal.
Terminal operations include measurement and movement of the
crude oil inventory, power generation, vapor control systems for
the fixed roof storage tanks, marine tanker vapor recovery
facilities, processing of marine tanker ballast water, and facilities for
loading crude oil onto tankers.
Rod holds a Bachelor s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Oregon
Institute of Technology.
He achieved Professional Engineer regis-
tration in Oregon, Washington, California and Alaska.
Prior to
joining Alyeska Pipeline Service Company in 1991, Rod worked for
consulting engineering firms in Alaska as a civil / structural engi-
neer.
Rod began his career at Alyeska in 1988 providing field engineering
services at the Valdez Marine Terminal.
He was involved in the
initial engineering design and construction of Alyeska s Ship Escort
Response Vessel System facilities in Valdez as well as marine
facilities and hatchery protection programs in Prince William Sound.
Rod held a variety of other positions in Engineering, Maintenance
and Projects before moving into Pipeline Operations in 1995.
He
then spent several years in operations line management positions
on the North Slope and along the trans-Alaska pipeline, serving as
a first line supervisor at some of the Pump Stations and also as
the Pipeline Manager for the 800-mile pipeline.
Rod is active in both internal and external employee / student
development activities.
He sits on Alyeska s Building Foundations
for Excellence committee and serves on a Vocational Education
Advisory Board for the Prince William Sound Community College.
Rod, his wife Sam, and their two children, Kristin and Rick, enjoy
the many summer and winter outdoor activities that abound in the
Prince William Sound region.
