Stuart Gannes

Mr. Stuart Gannes is Venture Partner at DEFTA Corp.
He brings a lifelong focus on media and innovation to his work.
His career spans journalism, publishing, software development, corporate research, and education.
From 2002-08, Mr. Gannes served as Director of the Digital Vision Fellowship Program at Stanford University.
He held the position of Senior Research Scholar at Stanford and lectured on social entrepreneurship.
Prior to Stanford, he was the director of AT&T’s West Coast Internet Applications’ Lab in Menlo Park, CA.
His projects spanned messaging, Internet access devices, and text-to-speech services.
He also negotiated numerous business partnerships between AT&T and Silicon Valley tech companies, universities and investors.
Mr. Gannes was the founder of Books That Work, an innovative and award-winning “How-to” software publisher that helped homeowners visualize and design everything from decks and landscapes to kitchens and baths.
Gardening.com, published by Books That Work was one of the earliest Web-centric content publishers.
Mr. Gannes has a BA in History from the University of Michigan, and a Masters in Education and Social Policy from Harvard University.
As a journalist he was a reporter, writer and editor at Time-Life Books, Discover and Fortune Magazines.
He was born and raised in Detroit
