They are a subsidiary of CIBC Private Wealth Group LLC, ultimately held by Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (NYSE, TSE: CM) in Canada. CPWA provides investment advisory and wealth advisory services to individuals, trusts, estates, families, charitable organizations, employee benefit and contribution plans, corporations, state or municipal government entities, pension and profit-sharing plans, and other investment advisers. The firm also participates in wrap fee programs offered by third party sponsors.

Formed in 1932 by Sydney Stein, Jr. and Frederick Roe, Stein Roe Investment Counsel LLC provides independent investment counsel to wealthy families, individuals and institutions. The firm is based in Chicago.
