José Miguel Ureta Cardoen

Mr. José Miguel Ureta Cardoen is Founding Partner & Chief Investment Officer at Picton SA and a Director at A5 Capital SA. Previously he was Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Consorcio Nacional de Seguros –Chile’s leading life insurance company– where he worked for over seven years.
At Consorcio, he oversaw a diversified global portfolio of more than $6.5 billion in fixed income, equities, real estate and alternative investments.
He served on numerous corporate boards, including those of Banco Consorcio (Consorcio’s commercial and retail banking affiliate), Larrain Vial AGF (Larrain Vial’s fund management arm), ESVAL S.A.
(Chile’s second-largest water utility), and several real estate companies.
He also managed Compass Emergente, an $80 million small cap equity fund run by Compass Group –one of Latin America’s leading asset managers.
Between 1998 and 2001, he was a member of Deutsche Bank’s Chilean investment banking team, participating in numerous M&A transactions, tender offers, equity issues, bank syndications and bond placements.
Mr. Ureta Cardoen holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in Santiago, Chile, where he received the Engineering School’s award for top-ranked graduate of the class of 1991.
He completed his graduate studies at Harvard Business School, MBA class of 2003.
