National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) was established in 1993 with the adoption of the law reorganizing the Kazakh Republican bank and the USSR's Gosbank into the National Bank of Kazakhstan. The central bank of Kazakhstan, NBK is the top tier of the country's banking system. The bank is accountable to the President of Kazakhstan and within its legal authority acts independently. Based in Almaty, NBK serves as trustee of the Kazakhstan National Fund, a stabilization fund established in 2000 with the aim of insulating the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan from price swings of oil, gas and metals. The bank coordinates their activities with the government of Kazakhstan, aiming to ensure the stability of prices in the Republic of Kazakhstan by developing and implementing the state's monetary policy, supporting payment system functioning, implementing foreign exchange regulation and foreign exchange control and providing assistance to maintain the financial system's stability.

Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund JSC (Invt Mgmt) (Samruk Kazyna-IM) is the investment management division of State-owned Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund JSC in Kazakhstan. The firm was created in 2008 when Kazakhstan Holding for the Management of State Assets (SAMRUK) and KAZYNA Sustainable Development Fund, which were both established in 2006, merged. Based in Astana, Samruk Kazyna-IM aims to enhance competitiveness and sustainability of the national economy and prevent any potential negative impact of changes in the world markets on economic growth of the country by managing shares of national development institutions, national companies, and other legal entities they own to maximize their long-term value and competitiveness in world markets.
