James Allen Colon

Mr. James A.
Colon, CFA, is a Portfolio Manager at Nuveen Asset Management LLC.
As a member of the Institutional Solutions Group, he is responsible for building customized, risk-managed solutions for institutional clients.
These solutions range from managed-volatility strategies and overlays to liability-driven investing and plan de-risking strategies.
He has also been the lead portfolio manager of Nuveen’s Intelligent Risk Portfolios-a suite of volatility-managed, global allocation strategies-since their inception in 2009.
Mr. Colon began his career in investment management in 2000 and joined Nuveen Investment Solutions (formerly Richards & Tierney) as an analyst in 2006.
Prior to his current role in the Institutional Solutions Group, he co-managed several traditional asset allocation strategies and option-overlay strategies.
He has also held senior analyst positions at Nuveen Investment Solutions and Nuveen Hyde Park, where he managed the quantitative analysis underlying the firm’s asset allocation, alternative investment research and risk management methods.
Mr. Colon earned a B.A.
in both economics and international relations from Michigan State University and an M.S.
in financial mathematics from the University of Chicago.
He is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder and is a member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society of Chicago and the Chicago Quantitative Alliance.
