Michel Thérien

Since 2001, Mr. Thérien has been consulting with clients in matters of strategic planning, acquisitions and divestments.
Previously, he worked for nearly 20 years within the Mouvement Desjardins in a number of senior management positions, acquiring in-depth experience in business management and corporate governance, as well as a broad understanding of the Canadian financial services industry.
Most notably, Mr. Thérien was President and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins-Laurentian Financial Corporation, the company that comprised all of the Mouvement Desjardins’ life insurance, general insurance, trust, securities, and asset management businesses.
He also led the integration of Desjardins Life Assurance, Laurentian Life, Imperial Life, Laurentian Financial and AEterna Life into a single organization.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Thérien worked at the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and at Teleglobe Canada; he was also a management consultant and project manager, for a number of World Bank projects overseas.
Mr. Thérien is a member of the Financial Asset Management Committee of the Solidarity Fund QFL.
He earned an MBA from the University of Montréal in 1974.
