Vestcorp was until 2009 a private equity investment manager following a flexible value-oriented investment approach which they defined as 'investment engineering', and aiming for balanced diversified portfolios of private and public investments. Some of their assets were invested in third-party venture capital funds. In terms of direct investments, Vestcorp focused on expansion-stage small and medium-sized companies, and on undervalued small- and micro-caps. They invested across industries and favored sectors such as IT, life sciences and industrials. In 2009 Vestcorp re-adjusted their strategy towards the construction of a highly concentrated portfolio of majority stakes. They focus on a few high-potential investments and tend towards activism. Their criteria include established products, a strong customer base and a strong defensible position in a niche market. They favor sound balance sheets and significant growth opportunities.
