TCI is an activist, value- and catalyst-driven manager which invests globally in equity for the medium- to long, or even very long-term. The utilize a bottom-up investment process based on fundamental research to target strong business franchises with sound fundamentals. They invest in mid- and large-cap stocks in Western Europe, as well as in North America, Asia and emerging markets. The firm seeks to identify significantly undervalued companies in markets protected by high barriers to entry. They follow a long/short event-driven investment strategy and construct long-biased, highly concentrated portfolios. They typically acquire minority stakes, occasionally using swaps to increase their shareholding positions, and seek alliances among the other minority shareholders to determinedly promote shareholder value creation. TCI is an activist firm and is included in the SharkWatch50 as one the 50 most prominent activist investors. They have been credited for having prevented the takeover of the London Stock Exchange by Deutsche Börse in 2005, and for having facilitated the takeover of ABN AMRO by Royal Bank of Scotland in 2007. They have invested significantly in US railroads and Hong Kong real estate.
