Mr. Russell J.
Smith, CPA, is Vice President & Controller at Washington Capital Management, Inc. He began his career in real estate in 1983 when he joined a firm in Tyler, Texas, that invested in oil and gas properties and real estate.
He worked with them as Controller and later Chief Financial Officer.
Major accomplishments included the conversion of accounting systems to current technologies and the introduction of metrics that were used to evaluate real estate acquisition and to measure performance.
Mr. Smith has also served as an asset manager, responsible for some of the equity properties in the Seattle area.
Mr. Smith earned his bachelors degree in business administration from Ambassador College in Pasadena, California, in 1971.
In 1977, he earned a masters of science degree in finance from West Coast University.
In 1977, he became a certified public accountant.
He is a member of the AICPA and Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Russell is on NCREIFs portfolio management committee and is active in the Seattles BOMA chapter.
He is a past director for junior achievement of Tyler, Texas, and has been a volunteer for junior achievement at the high school level.
