The fund has invested across the entire spectrum of company development, from start-up through mezzanine and PIPES. 85% of the funds' investments are in US companies and 15% are in European and Asian companies. The MPM BioVentures III Fund closed in December of 2002. The fund holds a portfolio of 39 companies, 85% of which are focused on biotechnology and pharmaceutical products and 15% are focused on medical devices and life science tools. The fund's balanced portfolio of early-, mid- and late-stage companies includes investments in public companies through PIPE transactions. The MPM BioVentures IV family of funds was launched in the second quarter of 2006. The funds hold a portfolio of 18 companies with investments ranging from $5 million to $36 million. About 75% of the funds' investments focus on biotechnology and pharmaceutical products and 25% focus on medical device companies. About 25% of the funds' investments have been made outside the US, including investments in Asia and Europe.
