James L.
Payne was the founder of Shona Energy Co., Inc. (founded in 2005) where he held the title of Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer from 2011 to 2012.
He is currently the Director of Palmer Drug Abuse Program, Director-Emeritus of Colorado School of Mines Foundation, and a Member of both the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
In his former positions, Mr. Payne served as Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer of Nuevo Energy Co. from 2001 to 2004, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Shona Energy Co., Inc. from 2005 to 2011, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Santa Fe Energy Resources, Inc. from 1982 to 1999, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Devon SFS Operating, Inc. from 1999 to 2000, Vice Chairman of Devon Energy Corp.
from 2000 to 2001, Director of Baker Hughes Holdings LLC from 2010 to 2011, Director of BJ Services Co. LLC from 1999 to 2010, Director of Technip USA, Inc. (Louisiana) from 2000 to 2011, and Independent Director of Nabors Industries Ltd. from 1999 to 2013.
He also served as Director of Pool Energy Services Co., the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the Offshore Energy Center, Spindletop Charities, Inc., and AAPG, Inc. Mr. Payne obtained his undergraduate degree from Colorado School of Mines in 1959 and an MBA from Golden Gate University in 1974.
