L. J. Hartwig

Mr. Hartwig, founder of Maryland Capital Management, has been involved in finance and investments throughout his entire business career.
Starting in 1959 as an investment research analyst with Baker Watts & Company, he became increasingly involved in client portfolio management for the senior partners of the firm.
In 1969, Mr. Hartwig joined Middendorf, Colgate & Company, an investment banking firm specializing in insurance stock research.
He managed the Boston office of this nationally-recognized firm and had day-to-day dealings with some of the major institutional investment firms in the country.
Returning to Baltimore in 1976, Mr. Hartwig became Vice President of Monumental Capital Management, an investment counseling subsidiary of the Monumental Life Insurance Company.
During his tenure at Monumental, he directed the research for and establishment of an investment philosophy and strategy for the management of client funds.
Mr. Hartwig formed L.
J.
Hartwig & Associates, predecessor to Maryland Capital Management, in 1978.
Clients funds were committed to the disciplined investment principles created by him to achieve superior investment results over long periods of time.
The client investment record has proven the premise sound, as the ten-year record has outperformed the Standard & Poor's 500 averages.
Mr. Hartwig is a graduate of George Washington University and serves either as an advisor or Board member of several corporate and charitable organizations.
