BIL is an active manager which performs in-house fundamental and technical research, supplemented by external research, to construct portfolios. They primarily invest in growth and value stocks of small-, mid- and large-cap companies employing a thematic investment approach. The firm manages all non-US equity portfolios from Edinburgh, communicating regularly with the US equity and fixed-income management teams to capitalize on global themes, including macroeconomic interest rate trends and information on multinationals.

SAM-UK aims to manage their investments to capture maximum upside but also downside protection. The firm selects fund managers based on their ability to demonstrate a sound investment philosophy and apply it to the market, monitoring them regularly against agreed investment objectives and risk.
